I am about to describe my ideal blogging life. This is not advice for you to use. It’s more like a daydream about a world in which I can do whatever I want and still be cool 😉
Plus, you don’t want my advice – believe me! I have no blogging game…
I am a personal blogger. And even though blogging is my hobby, I try to follow the advice of pro bloggers. Or at least I did….
I am in the process of changing how I blog so that I enjoy it more and get overwhelmed less. And, though I am not entirely sure what it looks like in reality, this is what it looks like in my mind…
No Email List or Content Upgrades
I know, I know. The money is in the list. But I don’t want any money. What I do want is to share my thoughts, opinions, and some helpful stuff online. I did have an email list until this morning and the only thing I ever sent to my list in 3 years of blogging was new blog posts.
No Social Media Strategy
I want to hang out online and have fun. That’s what I used to do before I became a blogger. But now, I am always worried about what I am sharing and if my audience will bail on me if I go too off-topic. It’s silly really.
No Specific Blog Strategy
I will blog when I feel inspired. And, hopefully be inspired more often because I am not stressed about my blog strategy 😉
Grow Slowly and Enjoy The Process
This is real life blogging here. Yes, some people hustle and put in way more time than I ever will and grow big audiences fast. But, a part-time blogger with my level of initiative will grow slow and steady and that is just fine with me!
No Blogging Schedule / No Set Posting Days
I am breaking all the rules now! When new bloggers first come into this world, the first bit of advice is always “Be Consistent” And it is REALLY great advice. It works. But I don’t want to be consistent. I want to blog when I want and post the blog when it’s finished. What does your ideal blogging life look like? Click To Tweet
One Of Everything / Everything In One Place
I pretty much tamed this beast, but I still have a few things to clean up. At one point I had 5 Gmail accounts. Five! Why? I have no clue. I just kept grabbing usernames and then using different emails for different things. Ugh! What a mess. So now with all things digital, I want to only have one of everything (or every function) and keep like things together. For example, I keep all blog posts ideas in my Wunderlist app. I write all blog post drafts in Google Docs.
Practice Blogging Basics
Blogging basics include creating new content and connecting with others. So in my life that means I want to focus on writing new blog posts and reading other blogs. The other stuff like commenting, sharing, and engaging in social media will come as a natural result of reading blogs and writing.
Don’t Look at Stats or Number of Followers
Stats / Numbers do not define me or my blog. They only tell me how many people connect with it. I would rather focus on having conversations with people who I relate with and being helpful to others.
The Self – Explanatory Stuff
- Read Positive, Inspirational, and Encouraging books/blogs.
- Be Positive and Encouraging to Others
- Be Kind and Helpful. Always.
- Have fun
I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking: “This Michelle girl is crazy. She is totally going to tank her blog if she does all of these things. This is basically a ‘What Not To Do’ for bloggers”
Maybe you’re right. Maybe this is the worst advice anyone could give another blogger. In fact, it probably is… But it’s not advice, remember? It’s what my ideal blogging life would look like. If only….
