You don’t need a header image for your site, but it’s a good idea to have one. Because no matter how cool your new WordPress theme is, chances are the font used for the Site Title and tagline is a bit boring.
So I am going to show you how to add a header image to your site AND how to make that image super-quick using a FREE online tool.
Step 1: Determine what size your header image should be.
From your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance and click on Header and view the recommended header image size for your theme.
Step 2: Create your header image in Canva.
In Canva (a super-cool FREE online tool), click on Use Custom Dimensions, enter the dimension sizes from your theme’s recommendations and click on Design.
To create a simple text image, click on Text and Add Heading. A text box will appear. Change the text and use the accompanying tools to edit the font style, size, color, and more.
When your image is ready for downloading, click on File and Save and then click on Download to download as a High Quality PNG.
Step 3: Upload your header image to WordPress
From your WordPress dashboard, click on Appearance and Header.
Click on Header Image and then click on Add New Image.
Under the Upload Files tab, click on Select Files.
Choose the image file and click Open.
Make sure the image is selected and then click on Select and Crop.
Because you made the header image the exact size needed for the theme you can select Skip Cropping.
